A medieval finger-ring, much distorted, consisting of a flat band terminating in a thick pyramidal bezel with a square panel bearing a cross. This appears to retain traces of niello. The shoulders of the ring are decorated with criss-crosses and punches.<\/p>\n
The ring is silver and dates from the twelfth century. It is of a type represented in the Lark Hill hoard at the British Museum (PE 1854,0820.4).<\/p>\n

It takes the form of two entwined parts, possibly intended to be rope, possibly snakes, although they look more like the former. These terminate in a projecting knop at one end and taper to a knopped terminal at the other end. The mount has two integral rivets on the reverse, both broken. The reverse is flat and undecorated. Traces of gilding remain on the surface. It has a green to dark green patina. An incomplete cast copper-alloy early medieval, Anglo-Saxon roundel. The mount is decorated on the front with an interlaced design and a central blue glass setting within a circular boss and a circular collar. The remaining edge of the roundel is raised, giving it a dished appearance. The front has been gilded, the reverse apparently not.There are many scratches on the reverse. The mount has parallels in contexts from Sutton Hoo 2 and Caenby (Kevin Leahy pers. comm.). The dimensions of the object are 45.65 mm long, 29.74 mm wide, 4.63 mm thick and it weighs 10.7 grams. An integral rivet projects from the remaining side of the reverse.
