Surrounding the device is a heavily damaged inscription which can not be read. The object has a dark brown patina. The object is lentoid shaped in plan with a central rectangular section and a rounded projection at either side. There is a central sub-rectangular slot for the blade tang. The slot for the tang is regular and has an internal width of 20.77mm and is 6.07mm thick. The central panel is decorated with red enamel in the form of a figure of eight from which projects an inverted triangle at either side. The projections are circular in cross-section and terminate in a break. The object has some traces of red enamel on the reverse. The axe is sub-rectangular in shape with a square butt end that is substantially corroded and incomplete. The axe is generally flat in profile; however there is a definite gradual thickening towards the centre of the body of the axe. The sides of the axe are also slightly rounded. The blade of the axe shows signs of a slight flare, suggesting a splayed crescent shaped blade. The blade however is badly corroded and incomplete. The trumpet brooch has a typical oval head shape, the pin and spring are missing and the catchplate is incomplete. Near to the top of the oval head there is one central moulded band on the outer body of the brooch. At the top and bottom of this band there are two horizontal incised bands either sides of the central band. These bands do not extend around the whole of the body of the brooch. Above the upper incised bands there are two vertical incised line decoration that slightly flare at they reach the top of the oval head of the brooch. These incised lines reach up to a small peak on the top of the head of the brooch. Running vertical down the centre of the body there is a ridge. Below the central band the brooch tapers until it reaches the foot of the brooch, where there is a small instep and rounded foot.
