Job Description: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a temporary paid intern position (6 months) working for the Portable Antiquities Scheme within York Museums Trust.

Reporting to the North and East Yorkshire Finds Liaison Officer, intern will work supporting the North and East, and also the South and West of Yorkshire splitting their time equally between both.

The post will primarily deal with clearing a backlog of paper records generated by metal detecting rallies, as well as identifying and recording large personal collections of material on a national database. The intern will support the Finds Liaison Officers in the identification and recording of finds made by members of the public throughout the region.

Required Skills: The ideal candidate will have a degree in Archaeology (or a related discipline) and experience of databasing, and will have a knowledge or interest in metal detecting for archaeological artefacts.

This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in dealing with archaeological artefacts of all periods, as well as their identification and safe handling.
