TEMPORARY FINDS LIAISON ASSISTANT
12 week contract - 6 weeks in Devon and 6 weeks in Cornwall
37 hours per week
£15,725 - £16,830 pro-rata
We are looking for someone with a genuine enthusiasm for archaeology and archaeological artefacts to carry out work for the Devon & Cornwall Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) made available through the Headley Trust Internship Scheme.
You will support to two Finds Liaison Officers (one based in Devon at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter and one in Cornwall at the Royal Institution of Cornwall in Truro) and assist in the identification and recording of archaeological objects found by members of the public.
Required Skills:
Experience is essential of internet databases, digital photography, digital image manipulation programmes and word processing programmes. An understanding of the Treasure Act (1996) is desirable along with background knowledge of British Archaeology / History and issues surrounding metal-detecting and archaeology. You will also assist with general enquiries received locally by the PAS.
Previous experience of work in museums or archaeological units would be an advantage, as would familiarity with information technology and education. If you do not have the formal qualifications specified, but can demonstrate skills of an equivalent standard, we will still be interested in your application.
A flexible outlook, good communication skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines is required.
