{"vacs":[{"id":"67","title":"IFA Workplace learning Bursary in Historic Buildings Survey, Research and Archaeology","regionID":"40","specification":"<p>Hosted by: Peterborough Cathedral (in partnership with Peterborough City Council and Oxford Archaeology) <br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nStart Date: February 2008 <br \/>\r\nDuration: 12 months full-time <br \/>\r\nSalary: &pound;16,621 (&pound;17,120 from April 2008) <br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nApplications are invited for an HLF-funded IFA Workplace Learning Bursary at Peterborough Cathedral in the field of buildings archaeology under the supervision of Dr Jackie Hall, Cathedral Archaeologist. <br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nThis is a project-based placement, and the successful candidate will gain valuable skills working on a new survey, archival research and the creation of a GIS for the historic precincts of Peterborough Cathedral. This is an excellent opportunity to gain training in many aspects of buildings archaeology including digital survey, documentary research, understanding buildings within the wider historic landscape and the use of GIS as both a research and management tool. Additionally, by working on a single project with a large contracting unit (Oxford Archaeology), an archaeological consultant (the Cathedral Archaeologist) and a council-based HER officer, the successful candidate will develop a wide understanding of professional archaeology in England, as well as a deep understanding of a particular archaeological and historical resource. There may also be an opportunity to work towards a vocational Qualification in Archaeological Practice. <br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nWe welcome applications from candidates with a background in archaeology or architectural history with qualifications to degree level (or equivalent), some field experience and a strong interest in pursuing a career in buildings archaeology or a related field. Candidates should have good written and numeracy skills, and good analytical skills. Basic familiarity with one or more aspects of the project would be an advantage (IT, survey, archives). Good communication and team skills are also essential. The successful candidate will be based in Peterborough, but travel to a number of places will be required.
