Bronze unit of Tasciovanus (25 BC-AD 10) of the Catuvellauni tribe who occupied the whole of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, most of Buckinghamshire and parts of Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Essex and Suffolk, mint of Verulamium, present-day St Albans. BMC 1703, ABC 2667 Van Arsdell illustrates a similar coin on page 370, no.1713-1, which he classifies as Tasciovanus First Coinage, dating from c.25-20 BC.

Obverse: Helmeted bust left, 'duckbill' and zoomorphic motif in front. Reverse: Annulate horse left with large ears, corn ear between legs flanked by annulet motifs, second corn ear above flanked by triskele, annulet, annulet-in-ring and uncertain zoomorphic motif to right. As ABC, p. 121, no. 2380. Rudd lists the attribution of this coin to the Trinovantes as 'uncertain' and indeed it may be the case that this coin is related to other silver unit types…

An uninscribed silver half-unit struck of the North Thames / Eastern region, dating c. 60-20 BC, 'Sudbury Snakeheads' type. Obverse: three-armed spiral of corded snakeheads, each with spear projecting from mouth. Ringed pellets around. Reverse: Horse running left, ringed pellet above and below, other rings, annulets and pellet-in-ring motifs in fields. As ABC no. 2261; BMC 2479; see CCI-40988 for a coin with similar dies. Coins of this type are not common, with fewer than ten examples recorded on the PAS database, their distribution appearing to be focussed on Essex.
