An Iron Age coin; a stater of the Durotriges, Type E (compare Van Arsdell, p.294, No. 1235-1), probably a plated contemporary copy similar to 1235-3 and 1235-7, but dies look to be most similar to 1235-1. The coin is probably made from copper alloy and silvered, but the metal seems unusual. A very thin crack runs along most of the edge of the Apollo face. It is struck on an oval flan and is 19.9mm long, 17.9mm wide, and 3.3mm thick. It weighs 3.41gm. The coin dates from 58 - 45 BC.
