Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A medieval copper-alloy horse harness pendant. The pendant is shield-shaped and is decorated with a chequerboard motif, comprising six horizontal rows of five squares. Alternate squares are raised and are coated in silver. The recessed squares between would have contained enamel, but none survives. An integral loop is located above, set at a right angle to the body. A fragment of the copper alloy hinge survives within the loop.
The finder suggests that the device seen on this pendant may relate to the De Vallibus or De Vaux family, who apparently had connections to the Frieston area.
