A copper alloy bell of uncertain date. The object is incomplete. It is somewhat crudely made however the outer surface has been silvered. There is some ferrous corrosion on the inside of the object which is probably where the clapper was attached.

Ninty-seven incomplete and fragmented Post Medieval cast copper alloy Crotal Bells, circa AD1600 - AD1850. 97 random finds from South Cambridgeshire district. The heaviest piece, an incomplete bell with an all over "fish scale" design weighs 13.7g. Six other fragments have this same design but all come from the lower half of the bell chamber. An incomplete cast copper alloy bell with silvering, dating from the Medieval – Post Medieval period, between AD 1300 – 1800 (length: 26mm; diameter: 22.5mm; weight: 9.7g). The bell is tear-dropped shaped in plan and circular in section. At the top of the artefact there is an incomplete suspension loop (length: 8mm; width: 6mm; thickness: 4.5mm), which is broken at the top. Cast spherical tinned or silvered copper alloy bell with iron pea. Rectangular suspension loop with circular piercing. One of the sound holes in the upper hemisphere is hardly pierced. Both hemispheres of the bell are decorated with a fish-scale pattern (emanating from the raised central rib) and there is a raised love-heart on either side of the linear sound hole in the lower hemisphere. There is a hole (damage) in the upper hemisphere. There are traces of tinning/silvering all over. Length 40.44mm, diameter c.30.5mm, weight 46.09g.

A copper-alloy bell of probable Roman date. The piece is half spherical and has been quite crudely cast. The walls of the bell are thick (up to 3.5mm) and are heavily encrusted on the inside. The bottom edge of the bell is rough in appearance due to the presence of a number of decorative "teeth". These cover approximately half of the edge, the other half being flat and plain.
