An enamelled copper alloy plate brooch. It is circular, a raised border on the outer circumference and approximately halfway along the diameter forms a section, inside which cells for enamel are formed by alternate high and low sections. On the raised parts there are traces of a blue enamel. The central section of the brooch would have been divided into six triangular sections, like wheel spokes, which would have also have been enamelled. Three of these remain. In the centre is a raised boss which would have been a prominent feature, but is now missing. The reverse is fl…

A section of what is probably a knee or trumpet type early Roman brooch. The head is circular and behind it are the remains of the fixing plate for the spring. This is a raised rectangular section which fills the full diameter of the head and would have extended perhaps 3mm or 4mm upright. The remains of this have a worn curve in the centre which would have formed a fixing hole when complete. From the front of this head a circular section piece extends which has a central rib down the length of it. This curves at approximately 75 degrees, sloping down from the head, then vert…

The outer circles are inlaid with white enamel, which survives, the inner circles do not have enamel in them, and may alternatively have contained gem stones, it is not possible to confirm this. The outer frame is again a lozenge shaped, div…

A possible knife guard. It is moulded in copper alloy and is basically a sub rectangular shape. In the centre is a rectangular hole through which the blade of a small knife would have passed through. At either end the shape narrows to form the muzzles of a zoomorphic design. From the snout, two shallow circular lines extend toward the hole, but at the snout this deepens, making the centre section raised above the outer, emphasising the snouts. The eyes are located inside these circular shapes and there are dots for the nostrils and a triangular shape at the top of the head, f…

Possible finger ring or even a mount. It is ovoid in shape with a sub-circular central face, from which further material extends out to form the overall. These extensions both have a hole drilled in them, and are angled downwards below the plane of the central face, forming a semicircular section. It is symmetrical in both axes. The semicircular shape fits the finger (a modern male finger) but the two holes either side suggest that this was mounted to something else with a circular shape. The circular central face is divided into five fields - a central sub-square/…
