A complete cast copper-alloy early Post-Medieval button dating from the period AD 1450 - 1600. The button has a circular front with a raised decoration on its surface of a central nipple, surrounded by short lines radiating towards the buttons edge. There is an undecorated gap between the apex of the pellet 'nipple' and started of the moulded lines that creates a concentric circular appearance. A late post medieval, reverse painted button with a copper alloy frame and glass painted inlay (c. AD 1750 - 1900). Likely a waistcoat button, given its small size. The button is discoidal with the obverse glass inlay depicting a painted female bust wearing a crown. The reverse of the button is flat with an integral attachment loop intact. Diameter 13.7mm, thickness 3.3mm and weight 1.73g. An incomplete copper alloy post-medieval button (AD c.1600-c.1800), missing part of its attachment loop. The button is disc-shaped with convex reverse. The obverse is inlaid with mother of pearl. Overall, the button measures 18.0mm in diameter and 7.9mm thick. It weighs 2.83g.

TREASURE CASE: 2012 T170 Post Medieval to Modern gold button Description: Cast gold circular domed button with flower design. There is a central circular boss with stippled effect, surrounded by 14 elongated petals which are recessed and contain traces of an inlay, which appears to be red in colour. The reverse of the button is slightly hollowed and has a central circular suspension loop. It is 15.10mm in diameter and weighs 2.73 grams. Copper alloy. Stud, mount or button front. Cast disc with a central setting of red glass, now shattered, and bearing stamped decoration. The scheme includes a series of closely-spaced circles which the finder suggests may represent a bunch of grapes, and floral or leaf motifs. The central glass setting has a simple circular border. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1750. Diameter: 13.68mm, Thickness: 1.19mm, Weight: 0.94gms.
