A worn and damaged silver Medieval Scottish penny of Alexander III of Scotland (AD 1249-1286) dating to the period AD 1280-1286 (second coinage). Long cross reverse with two quadrants containing a star and two containing a pierced mullet, alternating.
Seaby & Purbey 1984:10-11 refs 5052-5058
The coin is heavily distorted and there is a break in the coin following one of the creases from the edge to the centre. There are traces of gilding at 12 o'clock on both the obverse and the reverse.
Diameter 19.88mm, thickness 4.88mm and weight 1.22 grams.

A medieval Scottish silver cut halfpenny or farthing of Alexander III of Scotland (1249-86), First Coinage 'Long Cross and Stars' type (not further defined, Spink S5042-8), dating to c.1250-80, mint and moneyer uncertain. Ref: Spink 2003: 16.
The coin is in poor condition with a tear in the flan. The straight edges of the coin suggest it is a cut fraction but it is not entirely clear whether this should be a cut halfpenny or farthing given that these edges are slightly irregular.
