The copper-alloy core of a silver plated copy of a denarius of Septimius Severus dating to the period AD 196 to 211 (Reece period 10). Illegible reverse type. The coin has two semi-circular cut outs at 3 and 9 o'clock on the obverse. These semi-circular cut-outs are a feature of numerous coins from this assemblage and it may be that they are votive in nature.

A corroded, irregular late 2nd-/early 3rd-century silver-plated copper-alloy denarius, probable mule, copying Septimius Severus, 'PART MAX PONT TR P IIII' (possibly), struck at 'Rome' mint (AD c. 200 - c. 201; Reece issue period 10).
See SUSS-34B064 on this database for potentially the same hybrid, possibly plated too, but surviving better. The obverse legend belongs with coins issued AD 200-201 (see R.I.C. IV, p. 111), while the 'PART MAX PONT TR P IIII' reverse type dates to an issue of AD 196-197 (R.I.C. 90).
