CAESARI AVGVSTO or SPQR reverse type depicting a triumphal quadriga r. surmounted by four miniature galloping horses. Spanish mint of Colonia Patricia. RIC I (rev.ed.), p.48, no.96 or 108a.
It is a brockage with the quadriga design being incuse on one side, probably due to another coin being stuck in the die during striking.

Denarius of Augustus, this coin was minted in Spain at the Colonia Patricia mint in 17-16 BC.
The obverse shows a bare headed bust facing right, with the inscription. SPQR CAESARI [AVGVS]TO
Rexerse has Mars standing left, holding vexillum & parazonium over his shoulder, the inscription should be [VOT P SVSC PRO SAL ET RED I O M] SACR.
Because of the high silver content of this type of coin was kept in circulation for a long time with examples known from hoards that date to the second century, which would explain the heavy degree of wear.
