Obverse description: Facing bust with possibly bifoliate crown, small lettering, initial cross potent heavily seriffed. Obverse inscription: +ED(---) Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets appearing like a trefoil in angle. Diameter: in excess of 14mm, Weight: 0.26gms, die axis: possibly 6.

An incomplete and folded Medieval silver penny of Edward I (1272-1307), minted at Canterbury. Class 3b, 1280 (North 1991: 28, ref: 1017). Obverse: EDWR'ANGL' DNS hYB (normal Ns); Crowned bust facing with a trifoliate crown and curved drapery. Reverse. CIVI/TAS/CAN/TOR (normal Ns); Long cross dividing the inscription with three pellets in each quadrant. Diameter: 19.1mm. Weight: 1.29g. DA=12:7. North, J.J. 1991. English Hammered Coinage, Volume II, Edward I to Charles II, 1272-1662. Spink & Son, London. The coin was folded through 160° when found and has been unfolded by the finder.
