Medieval silver cut farthing of John dating to the years c.AD 1204 to 1205. Short voided cross class 5a2*. Minted at Canterbury by Arnaud (ERNAVD). North (1994:221) no.969. A varient on that recorded with this unusual spelling of this moneyers name in Mass ((2001: plate 44, coins 1191 and 1192) as this has the reversed S on Va2 and no stop after the S, the sceptre appears to split the obverse legend between the E and X of REX..

A silver cut short-cross halfpenny dating to the medieval period. The surviving half of the coin does not include the moneyer's name, nor is the head of the king particularly visible, making identification difficult. The form of the X in the obverse legend suggests a Class 1b or 1c (c. 1180-1189, Henry II), or possibly Class 6c or 6d (1208-1218; John or Henry III). The latter class 6 coins of John are more common than those of Richard II or early Henry III, however the condition of the coin makes this a speculative indentification.
