A Medieval silver coin; a short cross penny of John (AD 1199 - 1216), Class 5b or 5c dating from AD 1205 - 1210 and issued by Hue probably at Canterbury. See North number 970 or 971. The coin is double struck after rotating on the die, making the fine details difficult to decipher. The coin is 18.74mm in diameter, 0.77mm thick and weighs 1.3g. The edges of the coin are unusually square.
