Complete and heavily distorted gold snake-head finger-ring of Johns Type Ai (Johns 1997, fig. 6, fig. 9). The slender hoop consists of a snake's head, body and tail in a naturalistic style. The head is rendered with a pattern of swellings, curves and lines with distinct eyes, brows represented by two slanting ridges and nose, giving the head a three-dimensional appearance. Post-Medieval gold finger-ring, the bezel consists of a central (now missing) stone flanked by two smaller ones (colourless rose cut stones, possibly diamonds but not tested). The side of the bezel is decorated with fluting for enamel. There is engraved foliate design on the shoulders of the band, plain at rear of band. Discussion: The fluting design on the side of the bezel is a type that does occur from 1670s onwards. gold object. The object is of hollow conical form with a flat base. Around the base is a border of beading, now quite worn. On the bottom is the remainder of solder which may indicate that this item was attached/ or part of a larger object. The top of the object has been dented as have other parts of the object.

A medieval finger-ring, the wire hoop slightly distorted, with an irregular semicircular bezel containing a dark red stone (probably a garnet). The ring is gold and dates from the late twelfth or the thirteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Description: Post-Medieval gold posy ring dating to between c. 1682-1709 AD. Plain gold ring, thin D-shaped band inscribed inside in lower case: love as I or else I dye with maker's mark SF in a shield. Dimensions: Thickness: 1.4 mm Diameter: 19.2 mm Weight: 4.02 g The same mark occurs on a ring in the British Museum collections, 1961,1202.389, although not identifiable in any standard reference work the mark occurs on the 1682 marks plate at goldsmiths hall, this ring can therefore be given a pre-1712 date.
