A worn and slightly corroded Medieval copper-alloy English jetton of 'Sterling Bust' type. The obverse has a forward facing bust with bifoliate crown within an inner circle, whilst the reverse has a long cross fourchee with three pellets in each quarter. It isn't possible to discern a central pellet on the obverse as is frequently common, however a small recessed circle is visible at the centre of the reverse. This form of jetton closely imitates Edwardian silver pennies, but with nonsensical legends comprised of pellets, annulets and figures imitating letters. Similar jettons are i…

A worn and highly clipped fragment of a copper-alloy late Medieval jetton dating to the c. 15th century AD. The fragment depicts the shield of France with three lis on the upper surface, with a triple stranded cross fleuretty in a four arch tressure on the other. As the exterior edges have been clipped substantially, very little of the legend remains, but it would have read: 'AVE MARIA GRACIA PLENA'.

A worn, corroded and slightly bent cast lead-alloy token of Post Medieval date with the initials 'T.V' across the centre of one face, with 'S D' above in smaller font and numbers '2 6' below (Powell type 2). The reverse of this artefact is plain, and is a dark-grey overall. It measures approximately 26.5 mm in diameter, 2.3 mm thick and weighs 9.14 grams. Lead alloy tokens were easy to make and were often manufactured locally; they are therefore difficult to date, but a general Post Medieval date of c. 1550-1800 AD is given for tokens with initials.

A very worn and extremely corroded copper-alloy late Tournai French Jetton of late Medieval date, c. 15th-early 16th century AD. The obverse depicts three circles arranged in a triangle each enclosing an uncertain shape, within a large granulated inner circle; the reverse is indiscernible. According to Finds Liaison Officer and jetton specialist Robert Webley, there are two main, successive groups of 'Three circles' in Mitchiner, dated to 1461-1497 and 1497-1521 respectively. The legends are difficult because the letter 'M' is rendered with upright strokes - ie. 'III'. Some (Ibid, p…
