Record ID: SF-E04C48
Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A patinated Mesolithic chisel or tranchet adze. Made on a large dark grey flint and crudely bifacially worked. The tool is sub-oval in plan, having a slight curvature and both the upper and lower surfaces have been extensively worked, with numerous flake removal scars. The 'haft' end is thicker and the implement tapers into a rounded cutting edge. It is heavily patinated to a light blueish-grey colour. A flake scar at the cutting edge indicates that a flake has been removed more recently, possibly to enable reuse of the tool.
