A copper alloy double loop rectangular buckle dating from 1600-1700AD. The buckle is decorated with small square engravings and a thin line border. A corroded iron pin is still in place. A cast copper alloy, double loop, trapezoidal buckle with openwork frame, dating from c. 1620-1680. The outer edge of each loop has a fleur de lis protrusion and is pierced with two rectangular holes. There are ovoid knops on the angles of the frame and a protrusion at either end of the strap bar. The copper alloy pin remains in place See Whitehead, Buckles 1250 - 1800, p. 85, No. 534. It is 52.5mm long, 33.9mm wide and 6.3mm thick. It weighs 12.67gm.

A copper alloy buckle pin dating from the Medieval period. It is circular in section and is curves into a loop at one end. There is a raised ridge or collar where the attachment loop meets the shaft. It has a dark green patina. It has a length of 43.29mm, width 3.86mm, thickness 4.04mm, weight 3.99g. For reference see Ottaway and Rogers 2002. A copper alloy Post medieval asymmetrical buckle dating from 1575-1700. One side is rectangular in shape and the other semi circular with a knop protruding from the middle of the outer edge. The pin and plate are missing and the entire buckle is decorated with incised diagonal lines. It was probably tinned originally - traces of the coating survive. It has a length of 20.58mm, width 14.17mm, thickness 2.40mm, weight 1.76g. For a similar eample but with knops at the ends of the bar, see Whitehead 2003. Buckles 1250-1800 p. 92 no: 580.

A copper alloy single oval looped D shaped buckle dating from 1350-1400. It is an example of a Meols type 10 buckle, with two prominent lobed knops flanking three grooves on the outer edge. A copper alloy oval buckle with an integral plate dating from 1250-1400. The integral plate has a hole for the pin, and is decorated with incised lines and traces of gilding. The lines are longitudinal at the loop end, and chevrons at the end further from the loop. The end of the plat is missing. There is a single integral rivet on the reverse. The pin is still in place. The buckle has a light green patina. It has a length of 33.64mm, width 21.08mm, thickness 1.67mm, weight 4.25g. For reference see Whitehead 2003. Buckles p. 33 no: 179. WMID-4EE2E3 is also similar.

A copper alloy oval single loop buckle dating from 1350-1400. It has a large projecting tab on the outer edge which is decorated with rectangles laid out in 3 rows. The pin is missing. The bar is offset and narrowed. The buckle has a dark grey green patina and filemarks on the reverse. It has a length of 27.84mm, width 20.56mm,thickness 1.48mm, weight 2.91g. For reference see Whitehead 2003. Buckles 1250-1800 p. 22 no: 93. It is an example of a Meols type 6 buckle, which date from the late 14th century.

Half of a copper alloy rectangular buckle dating from 1620-1700. It is decorated with punched circles and the pin is still in place. It would have originally had a knop on the end of each corner but one is now missing. The outer sides of the frame are scalloped and the frame may have originally been tinned. A fragment of a copper alloy, medieval buckle, probably from a Meols type 2 buckle, dating from the late 13th to early 14th centuries. Only the narrow pin bar and two short sections of the outer edge remain. The fragment has a dark green patina. It is 30.6mm long, 7.2mm wide and 5.1mm thick. It weighs 4.1gm. A buckle with narrow pin bar is illustrated in Grifiths, Philpott and Egan, 2007, Meols:The Archaeology of the North Wirral Coast, page 91, number 543.

A fragment of a rectangular, copper alloy buckle dating from the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century, AD1690-1720. The fragment is a section of the outer frame, of which less than twenty five percent remains. In the broader part of the frame is a drilled hole to take a separate spindle, probably with an anchor chape and tongue. The fragment is 36.7mm long, 5.4mm wide and 5.2mm thick. It weighs 2.6gm. Similar buckles are illustrated in Whitehead 2003, Buckles 1250-1800, page 103.

A copper alloy medieval asymmetrical buckle which is 50.73mm long, 18.67mm wide and 8.81mm thick. It weighs 10.76g. The frame is rectangular with a separate central bar which fits into the frame, and another separate bar for the outer edge which is fitted with a sheet roller. An oval, single loop buckle complete with buckle plate and pin. The loop of the buckle is rectangular in section and is plain, having neither decoration nor pin notch. The buckle plate consists of a strip of metal folded over one side of the loop, held together with a single rivet which remains in place. There is a perforation for the pin which is fastened around both the loop and the plate. The buckle has a dark brown patina. It is 33.1mm long, 15.9mm wide and 6.2mm thick. It weighs3.27gm. It dates from the medieval period, 1250 – 1500. See Whitehead, 2003, page 18.

A copper alloy buckle dating from the medieval period. The buckle is 34.15mm long, 27.64mm wide and 3.1mm thick. It weighs 4.46g. The frame of the buckle is oval and bevelled. A zoomorphic head projects from one side. There is no constriction for the pin, which is wire and the tip of it is missing. The buckle has a dark green and black patina. It is also possible that the object is a brooch, but since the frame has no constriction for the pin, it would normally be classed as a buckle.
