Small fragment probably of a pin head, one gilt face decorated with chip-carved interlace. There is one tiny rounded lobe similar to those on the upper part of a pin from Brandon, Suffolk (Webster and Backhouse 1991 cat no.66(e)). This example seems more likely to be on the lower part near the springing of the pin. >12.5 x >8.5mm. 8th century.

Large and unusual scroll-headed pin, made from rolled and wrought sheet (1-2mm thick) with single scroll rolled inward across cut upper edge to form head (scroll, 11 x 6mm), vertical seam on side of hollow circular-sectioned shank, broken, point missing. Length >85mm. Maximum diameter of shank 5mm. Fragment of a Picardy Pin, broken at both ends, finely engraved decoration, upper end with two surviving bands of engraved opposed oblique lines above a broad swelling covered with oblique cross-hatching and framed by two bands of multiple transverse lines containing vertical notches, below which can be found the broken stumps of a missing loop on the undecorated lower part. Very large shield-shaped pin head in rather abraded condition. One face is decorated with five closely spaced spirals interlinked and traversed by a knot of lines on a background probably once inlaid with enamel. Only the stub of the shank is extant. 40 x 26.5mm. Thickness 1mm. 8th century AD.

Incomplete pin, head and short length of shank. The solid spherical head is decorated with five rounded bosses. Probably a simplified copy of a ball-headed pin, e.g. Evans and Loveluck 2009 no.679, although there is no collar at the top of the shank which might have been expected in a close copy. Diameter 18.5mm, 13mm without bosses. 8th - 9th century
