An incomplete Medieval cast copper alloy buckle plate. The buckle plate is formed of a single piece of copper alloy sheet. The plate is rectangular and has two projecting tabs to house the strap bar with a notch in between for the pin. The plate is pierced by circular holes to take five rivets, two near each end and one in the centre. The other half of the buckle plate that would have sandwiched the strap is missing. The buckle piece is 0.9mm thick, 19.5mm wide and 47mm long and weighs 4.21 grams, It has a light green patina. Without a frame it is hard to date the plate precisely but …

There is significant material loss and green copper corrrosion product around the edges of the coin suggesting it is on a copper alloy core and therefore irregular. Reece period 10. Dimensions: diameter 16.7mm; thickness 2.4mm; weight 1.75g
