A copper-alloy ('latten') spoon handle terminal of the baluster / seal top type. There is just a stub of the stem of the handle surviving: enough to show that its cross-section was possibly hexagonal and 2.7mm by 2.2mm across. The terminal begins with a conical knop which flares out to a diameter of 5.5mm before stepping in sharply to 3.6mm. Above the conical knop the terminals widens gradually to a collar then a globular expansion then flares out into the sub-circular seal top, c. 9.5mm in diameter and flat on the upper side. The remaining section is 24.2mm long and weighs 2.82 g

Post Medieval copper alloy mount or stud dating to c.1500-1700 AD. The front plate is shaped into a six petalled flower with six round petals surrounding a circular centre. There may be a ring around each petal (as on SUSS-618FB8) or this may be a effect of corrosion. The front is convex over each petal and the centre. The back is flat. From the centre of the back projects a square sectioned attachment spike It tapers evenly towards the bent over, sharp point. The mount is 13.1mm by 13.8mm, 2.3mm thick excluding the spike, 7.3mm including it and weighs 0.86 grams. SOM-F38AF6, SOM-8…

Large flint blade with evidence of retouch at both ends, probably a double ended scraper. The blade is thick and D-shaped in section with a flat ventral face and two ridges running down the dorsal face. About 50% of the dorsal face of this secondary blade is still covered in cortex, which is thick, white with pink staining from soil that is partially still adhering. Neolithic to Bronze Age irregularly shaped multi-platform flint core, which shows signs of working on almost every surface apart from one area covering about a tenth of the surface, where the worn outer surface of the flint pebble remains. This working takes the form of many irregular scars where small flakes of varying shapes have been removed from multiple platforms including at least two at right angles. There are also a range of later removals due to accidental damage which have removed parts of worked areas. The undiagnostic nature of these scars makes it difficult to date th…

A group of twelve silver medieval coins comprising ten pennies, one cut halfpenny and one broken fragment of a penny. Found during metal detecting on cultivated land in Kilve, Somerset. All are part from the voided long cross coinage and issued under Henry III, eleven are English issues and one penny is Irish. The coins are all of the long cross coinage, Classes 3 and 5 (and Irish class 1d), and were minted between 1248 to 1265 with the latest coins minted from 1258 to 1265. The long cross coinage was replaced by a new coinage in 1279-1280 and therefore the group was probably depos…
