Treasure case 2012 T200: Acquired by the Museum of Somerset Description: Four silver pennies found squashed and possibly partially melted together. About a third of each penny is missing from an irregular break down one side of the group. One, the top penny, is more broken with c.50% missing from breaks. The coins are firmly attached together and no attempt was made to separate them for identification. The pennies are arranged with the obverse inwards so the reverse of the top and bottom can be seen. The piece is formed of two circular pieces of silver sheet now squashed flat together but possibly originally with a convex front and back. Post Medieval cast lead alloy (pewter) slip top spoon dating to the 17th century. The bowl is mostly missing but appears to be relatively broad widening out rapidly from the stem before ending in an irregular break. On the back of the spoon, there is a moulded triangular section extending from the handle a short way, the peg, which strengthens the junction of bowl and handle. Post Medieval cast lead alloy (pewter) slip top spoon dating to the 17th century. The bowl is a fig-shaped form with a rounded lower edge and sides and a top narrowing to the junction with the stem, Homer (1975:22) type 'f'. It appears flat topped in profile. The edge of the bowl is worn with a crack to one side. Medieval cast copper alloy single loop buckle frame. The frame is oval with an offset and narrowed strap bar and an oval expansion in the centre of the outer edge. The oval expansion is decorated on the front with incised diagonal lines in a chevron design. Where it projects beyond the width of the rest of the outer edge it is thinner than the rest of the edge. The plate and pin are missing. It is 11.9mm long, 15.8mm wide and 3.8mm thick; it weighs 1.28 grams. Medieval cast copper alloy buckle frame and plate. The frame is oval with an offset and narrowed strap bar and offset outer edge recessed in the centre to take a sheet roller, now missing. The outer edge has large knops flanking the recessed centre. The plate is formed of a rectangular piece of copper alloy sheet bent in half over the strap bar and rivetted together. Only half of the front survives. At the buckle end it is recessed at the sides to fit the frame and has two tabs looping over the strap bar with a slot between for the pin. Late Roman cast copper alloy finger ring. The ring has a large oval bezel with slight old damage to each side which measures 9.7mm x 8.8mm and 0.7mm thick. The bezel has been engraved with an incised design. It is has a complete circular loop at one end with a D-shaped section (flat inner side), it is 8.6mm in external diameter and 5.2mm thick. Below this it widens out into a sub-spherical section, slightly elongated from a pure sphere, 11.3mm in diameter and 13.1mm long. Medieval - Post Medieval cast copper alloy circular pommel from a roundel (rondel) dagger with square central hole. The pommel is disc shaped with regularly spaced deep grooves radiating out from the centre ended in indents in the edge. The grooves top and bottom are aligned creating a series of wedges with rounded ends in a 'starburst' design. The central hole is filled with iron corrosion.
