Medieval seal matrix dating from the 14th century. It is complete and survives in good condition. It is cirular with a conical handle terminating in a small opening work trefoil - the suspension loop. The body is not faceted, but rather, incised with six lines suggesting facets. The matrix itself is circular with a clear, insided pattern: A central sun, between the two arms and pans of weighing scales, all above what looks like water or waves. The central sun could also be understood as a ship's rudder, perhaps, or a compass rose. The matrix appears to be inscribed with +S'ABRAM AVPOI…

A very worn and corroded mount dating from the post-medieval period, c. 16th-17th century. The mount is made from copper alloy, but not encrusted with corrosion products and very worn. It plain, with two lugs on the reverse and no evident decoration on the obverse. The main body was moulded in the shape of three openwork circlets.

An nearly complete copper alloy Colchester Derivative Polden Hill type brooch, probably dating to c. AD80-120. Fragment of a copper alloy Roman brooch of Langton Down type, dating from the early Roman period, c. AD50-80. Only the upper part of the bow and the head survive. Class A. The upper bow has the typical flat, reeded decoration, curved inwards slightly with a sharpish bend at the top together with a cylindrical spring cover which is worn through or broken on the left and right. A post medieval copper alloy hooked strap fitting dating to the period c. AD 1575-1900. It is S shaped and in the form of a snake. The upper surface is decorated with neat rows of mounded scales. The head end remains, but the tip of the tail is missing. For a similar example see Gordon Bailey's Detector Finds 3 (1997, 21, No. 3). Bailey notes that the 'snake form belt hooks' became popular during the 16th century, however, they remained popular for several centuries. The fastener was part of a sword belt, and was used in place of the normal buckle. It is likely that these strap fit…
