A sherd of North Devon gravel tempered pottery. It comprises the rim of a storage jar. Just below the rim are two incised lines that would have run the width of the vessel and below these, shell-tempered reinforcement has been pushed onto the vessel, to strengthen. It is 16th century in date.

Sherd of North Devon pottery. A rimsherd, it has a gravel-free fabric (Type 11, Allan pers. com.)and would have been part of a tall pot or jar. It is orange/beige on the outside surface, with a grey interior. This type of pottery was exported widely, including as far as Bermuda. It is 16th to 17th century in date.
