Pottery sherd, found during testpitting in garden. It is probably Totnes Ware and from a large jug. It has a micaceous fabric and some areas of glaze on the surface. It is late medieval, possibly 16th century in date. Other finds included a 100 year old pub token (the Three Tuns) and a clay pipe stem.

Four pieces of medieval floor tile and one complete small square tile recovered from a garden. Four are glazed and of these, two are decorated. The largest fragment comprises a quarter of the tile, with an expanded fleur de lys pattern in yellow-brown slip on a brown-green glazed background. This is a typical design of tiles from an ecclesiastical site. The smallest fragment has two strips of yellow slip across a dark green-brown glaze. The complete tile is glazed with green which spills down the sides. All date to the 13th and 14th centuries. …

Large fragment of tile, recovered during building work in Exeter. It is square, with an orange-red fabric and a bevilled edge. The pattern retains its yellow-green slip in places and comprises a quatrefoil with a square and dot in the centre. It is 13th to 14th century in date.

Four rim sherds from an assemblage found in a nursery garden near Totnes. All have rim diameters in excess of 500mm, so probably came from substantial vessels, such as cooking pots. One has a fluted rim edge, probably made by finger tips. Three have traces of a green/brown glaze on the inside surface and another has two deep grooves and a ridge, just below the rim. All have some mica and iron ore inclusions and are known as Totnes-type ware. All are post medieval in date, dating to around 1600.

Part of a jug handle, of North Devon gravel tempered ware. Of very coarse fabric, it has a circular section and a small patch of very dark brown glaze in one area. It weighs 34.42g and is 60mm in length with a diameter of 25mm. This pottery was in production from the medieval to post medieval period.

Sherd of South Somerset ware. It has a yellow green lead glaze with yellow hotspots on the reverse. There is a cream coloured glaze trailed in a curvilinear pattern on the front surface. This type of pottery was made in Donyatt, South Somerset in the mid to late 18th century. The curved profile of the sherd suggests it is part of a pot or jug.

Two large rim sherds of coarse pottery and part of a jug handle. One sherd is beige/orange in colour and has fingerprint decoration beneath the rim and the other has a dark grey fabric and incised lines beneath a rim. The rim is at right angles to the body of the vessel. They both have large rim diameters, so would have been substantial vessels. The jug handle piece has a cross incised on the surface, to help with the firing process, and is orange/red in colour. All are medieval in date.
