Part of a Roman copper-alloy finger ring. The distorted piece represents the shoulders and bezel of the ring, with the hoop having been lost in antiquity. An oval setting occupies the outer surface of the bezel, containing traces of a white enamel inset. The shoulders are of D-shaped cross section, tapering to the points of the breaks. An unidentified substance and traces of gilding adhere to the underside of the ring; the presence of this material and the splaying of the ring both suggest a deliberate adaptation, the purpose of which is unclear.
