Object type: JETTON
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Royal French Tournai jetton of unusual type in very fine condition, similar to examples issued under Charles VII/VIII, 1460-1500. The quatrefoils in the circles, and the use of the II form for the letter N, makes this one of the later or second series of the three circles jettons described by Mitchiner pages 210-211. However the particular legends of this example - VIVE LE ROI (May the King Live), and IOIE SANS FIN (Joy Unconfined)- suggesting a coronation - are NOT RECORDED by Mitchiner. Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
This is a D-shaped buckle frame, essentially an oval, lipped frame with a narrowed, offset bar of 2mm gauge. The frame is 27mm high and 25mm from pin bar across to the lipped centre of the fore-edge. Apart from the pin-bar, the frame is ornamented on the upper side with cast rlief modelling, though it is too worn to make out any particular detail. The pin survives, and is a tapered strip of bronze, domed in section, 4mm wide at the point where it is rolled around the pin-bar, and 26mm long from that point to the tip.

Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flat ovate Medieval harness pendant of the type resembling an inverted heart, the lower edge being much thinner than the upper. The 'disc' is 27mm across and 23mm in height, and tapers down ward in thickness from 2.5mm to 1.5 From the centre of the upper (thicker) broad edge, a lug 11mm long, 9mm wide and 2.5mm thick is turned in the plane 90 degrees to that of the pendant plate, for its suspension. From certain traces it appears that the whole pendant was originally gilt.
