An incomplete copper alloy object of Roman or medieval date. The object is an incomplete shank of octagonal section. There section is essentially a square with a narrow facet at each corner. File marks are visible along all sides, and the object has a dark brown patina. One end is broken while the other terminates with two prongs. A complete copper-alloy awl of Bronze Age to medieval date, c.1250 BC - AD 1500. The awl appears to be complete with a length of 43mm. The awl has a conical shaft which runs for 18mm, after which the shank becomes rectangular in section and tapers to the terminal. The awl has a mid green patina and has a smoother surface at the conical end. While many copper alloy awls are known from the Bronze Age, it is difficult to be confident about this particular item given that the shape of awls changed little over time.

Treasure reference 2018 T383: a small hollow cylinder of silver. The cylinder has a double collar at both ends. The cylinder extends either side of the collars, and both ends are broken shortly thereafter. Traces of gilding are visible. Discussion: The object has no dating evidence itself, but is from a known Early-Medieval productive site and is probably evidence for silver working of that date. Conclusion: In conclusion, this object constitutes a prima facie case of treasure by consisting of more than 10% precious metal content in that it is silver and gold, and is of an a…
