The hoop, now distorted, is of D-shaped section. The bezel is now broken off from the hoop, and the stone has become separated from the bezel. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence of the surface of the ring indicated a silver content of approximately 98%. The translucent white intaglio was identified by Raman spectroscopy as an opaque quartz best described as chalcedony. The fragments weigh a total of 3.52 grams.

A Medieval finger-ring, iconographic in type, engraved at its centre with the image of a standing saint, possibly St John the Evangelist, holding a chalice in his left hand and blessing it with his right. The ring is a highly original construction of geometric planes, creating an exaggerated point at the shoulder. Each plane is engraved with a sunburst and sprigs of foliage. The back of the hoop is cabled and carries an inscription punctuated by engraved flowers. The inscription is contrary to the orientation of the image and reads:
"EN BON AN"
This French inscription, wishing a…

Silver-gilt finger-ring fragment. From what remains, it may have been a fede ring once surmounted by a crown. If there was a crown, it has broken off but there is evidence that some decorative feature was fixed at the point where a crown would sit. Grooves to the bottom of the ornamentation could be the fingers. Above this is a scooped out oval shape, which could fit in with the appearance of extant fede rings. Sleeve cuffs are also apparent, which helps to determine that this probably was a fede ring. Parts of the gilding remain on the outer face. Fede (Italian meaning 'faith') rings…

Description: A medieval silver-gilt finger-ring. The bezel is formed of a quatrilobe engraved with a cross against a hatched ground; the centre of the cross may bear an inscribed letter, but this is unclear. The hoop of the ring is engraved with a series of vertical lines separated by areas of cross-hatching; the back of the hoop bears a crude representation of clasped hands.
Dimensions: Maximum diameter: 25mm. Height of bezel: 11mm.
