A complete silver medieval annular brooch. The frame is plain and circular in section. The pin has a high collar; it is unclear whether the frame has a constriction for the curl of the pin, as the pin is fused to the frame at this point. The brooch is complete, although there is a break in the frame just to one side of where the end of the pin passes across it. No trace of any gilding is apparent on the brooch, though it may have originally been present. It dates to the thirteenth or fourteenth centuries AD. The brooch has a diameter of 24.5mm, is 2mm thick and weighs 2.1g.

A Roman copper alloy balsamarium in a vase-like form (Type III). Decorated with relief scenes depicting Bacchic imagery, including a satyr and three male human figures. The object has been damaged, probably by contact with agricultural machinery, but is otherwise in very good condition. Martin Henig suggests the object could be of Gallo-Roman origin and probably dating from the 3rd century AD.

In total there are 495 whole coins and fragments of coins. They all belong to the same type, the so-called 'potin' series of coins which were made and circulated in Kent and along the lower Thames valley in the early first century BC. They were cast from moulds and made from a high-tin bronze. The design on the obverse is an abstract representation of a human head, on the reverse an equally abstract depiction of a butting bull. These motifs derived ultimately from bronze coins of the third century BC made in the Greek city of Massalia (Marseille) in southern France, which found their …

Description: Fragment of a small square-headed (or Kentish) square-headed brooch made from gilded silver. Part of the bow and part of the headplate survive; the breaks vary a little, but in general are neither particularly fresh nor particularly old. The central panel of the headplate is decorated with a small rectangular gilded panel consisting of a ridged frame and three surviving short vertical ridges. This is surrounded to its single surviving (left-hand) side by a broad ungilded frame decorated with tiny transverse ribbing; this frame turns at the junction of bow and headplate…

A medieval silver seal-ring, set with a Roman intaglio stone. The stone and bezel are oval in shape, and the bezel is inscribed with the legend +SIGILLV OSBERTTI. The hoop, now distorted, is of D-shaped section. The bezel is now broken off from the hoop, and the stone has become separated from the bezel. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence of the surface of the ring indicated a silver content of approximately 98%. The translucent white intaglio was identified by Raman spectroscopy as an opaque quartz best described as chalcedony. The fragments weigh a total of 3.52 grams. Th…

Silver hooked tag of early-medieval date. The hook is now missing, and the break is relatively sharp; it looks like a cut or a fracture at a sharp crease. The plate is circular, with a pair of rounded lobes at the top corners each perforated with a circular hole for sewing. In between is an undecorated triangular pediment-like projection. The central field is a sunken circle filled with a counter-relief octofoil of eight round-ended leaves or petals, each with a pair of transverse grooves across them. The field is reminiscent of two roundels on the Fuller brooch, each filled with…

Date: early 18th Century Description: Post-Medieval gold mourning ring. D-shaped band, exterior once decorated, now very worn. Inscription on internal surface: HS ob 25 Mar at 48 (HS died 25 March aged 48). There is a gap in the inscription where the year of death is usually represented, four lines have been scratched into this gap, rather than engraved, this appears to be 1711.
