Merovingian copy of a gold solidus, dating to the 6th or early 7th century The obverse is obviously initially copied from a coin of Anastasius (AD 491-518), but the actual type with the emperor holding a cross on globe is later, in use from the reign of Justinian I (AD 527-68) onwards.  In fact, the reverse type suggests that the coin types are copied from a gold solidus struck at Constantinople for Justinian I (MIB 6), the prototype being struck AD 537-42.  The name of Justininian has been replaced with that of Anastasius.  Therefore the piece probably dates to the lat…

A complete silver medieval annular brooch. The frame is plain and circular in section. The pin has a high collar; it is unclear whether the frame has a constriction for the curl of the pin, as the pin is fused to the frame at this point. The brooch is complete, although there is a break in the frame just to one side of where the end of the pin passes across it. No trace of any gilding is apparent on the brooch, though it may have originally been present. It dates to the thirteenth or fourteenth centuries AD. The brooch has a diameter of 24.5mm, is 2mm thick and weighs 2.1g.

A Roman copper alloy balsamarium in a vase-like form (Type III). Decorated with relief scenes depicting Bacchic imagery, including a satyr and three male human figures. The object has been damaged, probably by contact with agricultural machinery, but is otherwise in very good condition. Martin Henig suggests the object could be of Gallo-Roman origin and probably dating from the 3rd century AD.

In total there are 495 whole coins and fragments of coins. They all belong to the same type, the so-called flat linear cast bronze unit or Flat linear 'potin' series of coins which were made and circulated in Kent and along the lower Thames valley in the early first century BC. They were cast from moulds and made from a high-tin bronze. The design on the obverse is an abstract representation of a human head, on the reverse an equally abstract depiction of a butting bull. These motifs derived ultimately from bronze coins of the third century BC made in the Greek city of Massalia (Mars…
