An incomplete copper alloy colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (possibly CD PH 4.k type) of Roman date, circa AD 75-160. The brooch is missing its, foot, catchplate, spring and pin. The brooch is T-shaped in plan and the bow head is hump-like, and slightly angular (comma shaped) in profile. The bow is oval in cross section and tapers to a worn transverse break. The sides of the head are decorated with curved mouldings, characteristic of Polden Hill brooches. A complete copper alloy trade weight, one of a set that would have stacked. It is circular with a raised rim, and the weight would suggest that it is 1/2 ounce. Inside are the stamps of a laver or coffee pot, the inspection mark of the Worshipful Company of Founders, who controlled the lawful making of weights in London and for three miles around (Withers and Withers 2011, page 78). Lead weight, made from offcut. A fragment of cast lead of trapezoid section, with cut and chatter marks on all sides; patinated. The mass might approach that of one lighter Viking-Age Ora/Ore comprising six sub-units of 4.07gms to enable use as a weight at that time, though the correspondence with that value is less exact than would normally be deemed significant by this reporter. Other finds from the vicinity are of mainly Roman date, though with later material present. Lead alloy toy tankard. Cast cylindrical model of a tankard, hollow, with an integrally cast moulded handle projecting from the mould line along one side. It is possible that other features were set opposite, where two surface irregularities may be either stubs from another handle or casting flaws. At least four rows of tiny moulded dots ascend the vessel wall, and it has a slightly expanded foot ring.
