The coin is broken, missing between around 30-40% of the coin. The break is rough and removes the (from obverse) the edge and part of the field from an area stretch between about 2 o'clock and 7 o'clock.

Silver medieval Scottish halfpenny of Robert III of Scotland, dating to 1393 - 1403 AD. Heavy coinage, second issue. Mint of Edinburgh or Perth. The die is crudely produced and the obverse legend is: [R]OBERT[V]S [REX ] VIL/LAx/[]. This variety is not listed in Burns though saltires are known dividing the words on the reverse of some dies. The diameter of the coin is 13.0mm, the thickness is 0.47mm and the weight is 0.27g

A silver groat of Robert III of Scotland (1390 to 1406) dating to the period AD 1390 to 1403.
The obverse depicts a forward facing crowned bust within a tressure of seven arches with three pellets at the cusps. The legend reads ROBERTVS DEI GRA REX S.... with three pellets in a vertical line as stops. The reverse depicts a long cross with three pellets in each angle. The inner legend reads VILL/A ED/INBV/RGH with two small crosses as stops. The outer legend reads DNS PTECTOR MS F LIB ATORMS with means God is my defender and redeemer. The F in the outer legend is retrograde.
