Description: The strap end remains as the tapering attachment end which terminates in three moulded ribs before a transverse break. The split attachment end is bilobed and has two attachment holes, now missing their rivets. The front plate has also broken away in parts around the holes. The fragment is undecorated. It has a medium green patina.

A copper alloy Roman nail cleaner with moulded neck and shouldered blade,dating from the 1st to 2nd century AD. The blade is narrow and undecorated, tapering from round shoulders 6.8mm wide to a bifurcated tip 3.4mm wide (one point is missing). The neck has a lozengiform cross section with four flat sides, each decorated with deeply incised oblique lines creating a zig-zag effect. The neck widens slightly into a rounded suspension loop, 6.8mm in diameter, set perpendicular to the plane of the blade.

The weight is a oval shape with parallel lines on rear and a deep ridge on front. A sub circular hole is present at the top for suspension. This has an internal diameter of 7.0 mm. The loop has been bent out of shape, and is now at right angles to the body of the weight.
It measures 48.6 mm in length, 19.7 mm wide and 11.9 mm thick. It weighs 59 g.
The weight is a light to mid grey colour, with an even surface patina.

Two close parallels for this object are noted in Margeson 1993 'Norwich Households: Medieval and Post-Medieval Finds from Norwich Survey Excavations 1971-78'. 38, refs: 257-258. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy buckle, dating to c.AD 300 - 410. Half of the buckle frame remains. Hawkes and Dunning Type IIA. The remaining fragment is C shaped in plan and semi-circular in section, it is formed of a dolphin with a gaping jaw. A large ring and dot motif forms the eve and a large fin covers the dolphins back. At the base of tail is an incomplete circular loop which would have held the now missing spindle.
