Fragmented copper-alloy rumbler bell with intact iron pea. The item dates to the Post-Medieval period. The bel is formed of two connected hemispheres with a raised ridge at the centre. There are two sounding holes in the upper hemisphere and a slit in the lower. Much of the lower hemisphere is damaged, with a small fragment of the bell wall having come loose. These collect rise approx. 3.2mm from the surface of the brooch frame. Between each collet, the thickness of the brooch frame increases slightly at the centre, and thins near to the collet bases, giving the appearance of raised scallops when viewed in section. Both faces are decorated in relief with a flower formed of voided pointed ovals for petals, radiating from a central pellet, and terminating at the thickened perimeter. On one face the flower is six-petalled, and there is a pellet between each petal. On the other it is three-petalled and between each petal is an obscure character: a letter I or a number 1, a figure resembling a letter O or D, and a shape resembling a heart. An incomplete copper alloy and iron harness boss dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1500-1700. The front of the boss is copper alloy, adhered to an iron backplate with one of two iron attachment loops surviving. Three iron rivets originally joined the front and back plates and are very visible as pockets of iron corrosion on the front surface. The boss is circular in shape with a deep dome at its centre.
