Hard hammer struck handaxe in fresh condition, of Wymer. J (1999) type F/M, or possibly type E though it is a little large, pointed with a conventional butt and a flat side "butt" both with thick, white cortex extant, the blank for this was a thermally (frost) fractured fragment of a much larger nodule of flint, the flatter of the two faces has a central patch of the original thermal fracture, now patinated with pale off-white mottles, otherwise the flint is black, apparently unpatinated with a slightly lighter brown inclusion towards the base. A copper-alloy sword or dagger scabbard chape of medieval date, (c 12th-13th century). The chape comprises a sheet of metal with a transverse fold at the lower margin, creating trapezoidal plates on either side, the upper margins of each having decorative cutaways. The front of each plate has incised decoration; one side with a saltire the other with a herringbone pattern of lines. Each plate has two long projecting arms from the top corners which terminate in circular rivet holes with traces of iron rivets remaining.

Slightly rolled handaxe of Wymer (1999) type D/F with some recent edge loss, crude and pointed, hard hammer struck flake removals from a water worn irregular and elongated nodule of flint with a large amount of thin, weathered cortex remaining; - of mottled grey flint now patinated orange and yellow with darker streaks. The flakes have been removed to produce a point with angles allowing for just one cutting edge from the tip to half of the overall length, the opposing edge is very close to 90 degrees due to the steep angles presented by the nodule.
