Limestone bivalve fossil with carved face on one side. The face has pronounced lips & nose although the lower part of the nose is broken. The eyes are oval and recesed. There is further decoration in the form of two crescents with transverse grooves to either side of the head - these are perhaps intended to represent hair, horns, ears or some kind of headress. Stone carvings are notoriously difficult to date and therefore this item must remain undated. It was initially suspected that the item may be Late Iron Age to Roman period based on the style of the face and locally ass…

A cast silver element comprising two figures, a female standing nude with one knee raised, a smaller female figure next to her whose bust ends in a shaft. Broken off at the base. The function of this artefact is uncertain, though it is certainly post 16th Century. The metal (which might be base silver) and facture suggest a relatively recent date. Due to it's undiagnostic nature it is therefore my view that this does not represent Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.

an incomplete copper alloy object, of unknown date and function. It is approximately triangular in shape, with two surfaces intact and the third incomplete. There is a rounded edge between the two surfaces and one terminal comes to a point. The opposite terminal is 10mm wide and is incomplete, but has a central groove 4mm wide, suggesting another component to the object, now missing. The object measures 28.53mm in length and weighs 6.02g

A white metal oval disc which is 27.4mm long, 24mm wide and 2.5mm thick. Most of the edge of the disc is rough and is probably broken. It is also curved so one face is concave and the other convex. On the convex face is a scratched design of a crenellated tower or gateway and beneath it some indistinct markings which may be numbers or letters. The other face is not decorated. The British Museum has not been able to identify or date this object but the analysis of its composition (see below) shows that it is not precious metal and therefore the piece is not Treasure under the Treasure …

Cast copper alloy object. The object has a half-round sectioned shank, with moulded, and possibly also incised, decoration on the upper (rounded) side. One end terminates in a flat shovel-like projection, which has a single perforation. The other end terminates in a worn transverse break, with a suggestion of an incomplete loop (possibly a susupension loop?).

A worn, rolled and damaged lithic implement, identified as a Palaeolithic flint axe by the finder. The condition of the object, along with the fact that it is not truly bifacial, makes this identification questionable. The axe is roughly oval is plan and in cross-section, with flakes taken off both dorsal and ventral surfaces. There is some damage around the edge exposing a fresh mid-grey coloured flint. The surface has a reddish-brown patina.

A gold object, probably a distorted finger ring of uncertain date. Curator's report: A strip of bright yellow pitted gold that has been bent six times forming three rough (un-unintended) loops. The edges of some sections appear to have been worked, being slightly rounded. Discussion: This strip of gold is long enough to have fitted round a small finger but there are no diagnostic features that could provide a date. Conclusion: Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find it can not be securely dated to pre-1708 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996 …
