A complete late early-medieval copper alloy stirrup terminal with a front trefoil finial. The front and sides are decorated at the top with two transverse grooves, the space between which curves outwards. The plate projects straight downwards to the centre of the plate and has no visible decoration. Here, the edges of the plate form a C-shaped curve on either side towards the trefoil, creating a projecting knob in the centre of the plate. The lateral foils are curved, the right being more convex than the left, and the central foil is sub-circular. The object has an uneven surface patin…

An Anglo-Scandinavian copper alloy stirrup terminal. It is rectangular in plan and 'C'-shaped in section and is hollow. The convex front is moulded in zoomorphic form representing a bird or beasts head with two 'eyes' represented by elliptical swellings at either side and a downward curving hooked beak or snout at the terminal. There is an old break at the top end and the underside is closed. There is no trace remaining of any gilding, and the terminal has corroded uniformly to a dull greenish brown.
