A copper alloy knop which is possibly Roman. The knob is 31.6mm thick, with a maximum diameter of 27.4 round the median flange. It is basically biconical, with a truncated and slightly domed top, concave upper sides curving to the medial band, and with the other cone elegantly extending into a shaft which flares out again at the bottom. There is a disc of metal on the base which seems to be acting like a rivet; it forms a thin, bruised, circular disc with a millimetre gap between the foot of the knob and the disc. The knob was presumably attached to a thin piece of metal, but not iron…

An incomplete (probably) cast copper alloy mount (possibly), dating to the Roman period, between AD 43 – 410 (length: 42.5mm; width: 6.5mm; thickness: 2mm; weight: 3.6g). This possible mount is sub-rectangular in plan and flat in side section. The artefact is decorated on the front only. The decoration consists of two (and a possible third) worn ring and dot designs with one at each end of the artefact. The concentric rings appear to be very worn, although the central dot (diameter of dot: 1.5mm) on each design is clearly visible. The central platform between these designs is de…

Cast copper-alloy Roman mount in the shape of a head. The mount was originally cast with a hollow reverse which has been filled with lead or a lead alloy that will have been used as a solder to attach this item to a wide possibility of items including bowls or perhaps even an item of furniture The head is inclined towards the left so that the object is neither in profile nor facing but so that roughly two thirds of the head is visible. The head is primarily human looking in form but with two short rounded horns projecting from the head and a full beard apparently arranged into two pr…

A copper alloy probable mount which is probably Roman. The mount is a flat plate (now bent) shaped like a triangle with a semi-circular wide end. From middle of the curved side of the semi-circle a convex shaft projects. It is 44.7mm long, 19.2mm wide and 1.9mm thick. There are two circular holes through the plate, one in the corner at each side. One hole has worn through and is now open. There is no decoration. The other face is unremarkable; the stem is hollow. No close parallel has been found for this object. The shape and the deep patina suggest a Roman date.

Cast copper alloy belt stud with a damaged flat panel perimeter and a raised stylised vulva in the centre of a convex oval upper face. The convex oval is hollow on the reverse with a shank with flattened head above and below it. Some mounts of this type have been found with an integral suspension loop for hanging a pendant at the base. An example of such a find comes from Niederbieber, now in the Landesmuseum, Bonn, and dated from the mid 2nd century to circa AD 260 (Oldenstein 1976, 137, 138, Taf. 34, no. 268); another is now in the archaeological collections at Vienne (Isere) (Bouche…
