A cast copper-alloy lock bolt of the Roman period.
The bolt is incomplete, with only one end remaining. There are six openwork squares and a larger openwork rectangle, ending in a flat projection that functioned as a latch.
Excavated examples from Roman forts and towns in northern England are generally found in contexts dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD.
