An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman key. The key has a oval bow set at right angles to a simple rectangular bit, and with a hollow-ended shank. The bow aperture is mushroom or pelta shaped. Below this there are a pair of low ribs positioned below the bow and where the stem meets the handle, which continue as slight projections on both sides. The bow is a medium green colour. 45.9mm long, 22.7mm wide, 6.9mm thick and weighs 8.77 grams. The solid stem is sub-rectangular in cross section, extending from the base of the bow and terminating in a projecting pin beyond the bit. The key is mostly intact but is broken at the end of its shank so that only part of this and the bit survive. The key has a circular shaped bow with a circular shaped central hole. An incomplete and very worn cast copper-alloy key, probably of Medieval date (c. AD 1200-1400). Only part of the circular-sectioned stem and triangular bit survives. The stem is broken at the non-bit end and tapers to a rounded point. The stem thickens towards the bit. The bit projects at 90 degrees from the stem and is solid in compistion. The entire object very worn and abraded. The patina is light green. The key measures 20.9mm long. The stem is a maximum of 2.7mm thickness. The bit is 8.1mm wide and 2.3mm thick. The key weighs 1.41 grams.

A complete Medieval cast copper alloy key, c.AD 1300-1500. The shaft is round in section and hollow, with a lozenge-shaped bow. The bit consists of two parts, with a deep, rounded cleft beween. The bit at the terminal is C-shaped, the other bit closer to the bow is scooped, appearing almost L-shaped. This key has a mottled green and brown patina and is worn and corroded.
