The central square bezel projects slightly beyond the line of the shoulders, and has a very faint engraved design, possibly a fleur-de-lis. The hoop of the ring narrows gradually from the bezel and is decorated with transverse grooves which retain gilding. A little way in from each edge, the panels thus formed have border grooves, and in the centre of each panel is a grooved V shape or triangle. The triangles are in alternating directions, forming lozenges. The diameter of the ring is 21.12mm.

A medieval finger ring, hollow cast, with a roughly oval aperture at the bezel. The back of the bezel is open so that the stone it once held would have been in contact with the wearer's skin. This may indicate that the stone was thought to have magical properties. It would have been secured in place by two pins inserted through two small apertures, one at the top and one at the bottom. The external face of the hoop is decorated on the left with a double row of zigzags, which runs into an inscription: IC HOPE (I hope) In the field after the inscription the zigzags are re…

Date: 15th century Description: Large silver finger ring with a channelled hoop. It is twisted on the shoulders and this extends towards the back of the hoop. Incisions on the shoulders create foliate patterns. The band widens to form an irregularly shaped hexagonal bezel with a punched border. In the centre of the bezel is an engraved outline of the letter 'I'. Discussion: This may have been used as a signet ring. It has close parallels with a ring found in Dorset (2004 T7: Treasure Annual Report 2004, no.209), although the bezel contains the maker's mark.

Bezel and part of hoop of medieval cast cu-alloy signet finger ring, probably dating from around the 15th/16th century. Medieval/ Early Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring, measuring 18.4mm in diameter (internal 15.6mm) and weighing 1.18g. The finger ring is D-shaped in section, being rounded to the outside, and with a tiny groove flanking each edge. The finger ring is very worn and appears to have pairs of incised vertical lines at intervals, presumably as decoration. There is also a possible lombardic D with four dots in a diamond shape preceeding it, although this is questionable and could be down to patina loss and corrosion - this has not come out terribly well in the image.

Silver-gilt finger-ring fragment. From what remains, it may have been a fede ring once surmounted by a crown. If there was a crown, it has broken off but there is evidence that some decorative feature was fixed at the point where a crown would sit. Grooves to the bottom of the ornamentation could be the fingers. Above this is a scooped out oval shape, which could fit in with the appearance of extant fede rings. Sleeve cuffs are also apparent, which helps to determine that this probably was a fede ring. Parts of the gilding remain on the outer face. Fede (Italian meaning 'faith') rings…

Fragment of a Medieval silver-gilt finger-ring. The incomplete cabled hoop has ridged shoulders and part of a double facetted bezel. It resembles in design rings generally termed iconographic, but in this instance there is no evidence to suppose that it carried images of Saints. The bezel appears to have been decorated with geometric shapes. The surviving length is 21.5mm, the width is 7.1mm and the weight is 1.91g. (description adapted from J Robinsons BM curator's report)

A medieval gold circular finger-ring, of small diameter, consisting of a very worn hoop. The hoop is decorated with a symmetrical design in the bezel area. The square central hole, between two engraved vertical lines, the two further panels both contained a punched dot, a hole and a further engraved vertical line. Each of the holes suggests a different diameter and these may have been designed for glass or gem settings, but there is no evidence that these were ever inserted. The finger-ring dates to the 14th century. Diameter of hoop 18mm.

A cast copper alloy finger ring. The ring has a very thin hoop - which has a circular section. The hoop is very corroded and pitted. The bezel is square in shape, but each side of the square rises to form a pyramidal shape, with the top cut off. There is a circle aperture in the centre of the bezel which would once have held a stone, this has now been lost. The reverse of the bezel is flat and appears to have been filed. The metal is a light greenish-grey colour. This ring is probably medieval in date.
