Roman button-and-loop fastener of Wild (1970) Class III. Both the loop and button are tear-drop shaped and the latter is decorated with a round boss within a circular groove. Length 30.5mm. Loop 5 x 5mm internally. Button 16 x 13.5mm. Late 1st - 2nd century.

An incomplete Roman dress fastener, which resembles a button-and-loop fastener, but with an integral disc-headed rivet rather than a loop. It has a damaged oval plate and an angled projecting 'button' at one end. It measures 9 x 21mm and probably dates from the 1st century AD.

John Creighton writes: Two squashed spheres (Diameter 7mm), connected by a waisted collared moulding. MF notes this to be a ‘dumbell button’ fasterner, though unusually small. Diameter: 3-6mm; Length: 13mm, weight 2.3gms.

Square-headed dress fastener. Triangular stem with triangular openwork. This shank leads to an incomplete flat, square, platform which is decorated with a complete circle and one incomplete circle of enamel. The enamel is now a beige/brown colour.
