Circumstances of Find
The coins were found as a small group, all within approximately 1m2 of each other, by two separate finders, while metal detecting on pasture land. The coins were found at a depth of approximately 1 foot.
Description of Find
The three coins are all groats of Edward III (AD 1327-1377), all from his fourth, Pre-Treaty, coinage and forming a tightly dated group, dating to between AD 1352 and 1356. Although no evidence of a container was recovered, the denominations would suggest that they were inten…

A hoard of four silver medieval pennies of Edward I or II dating to the period AD 1272 - 1327. The coins are fused together in a stack, with only the obverse faces of the topmost and bottommost coins visible. One face is too worn to reliably assign a North class. The opposite face exhibits the legend: EDWAR A[] hYB and exhibits characteristics of Fox's Class 10, suggesting the coin dates to AD 1300 -1310, however, it is not possible to distinguish enough detail to obtain a firm North classification.
The coin hoard measures 19.63mm in diameter, is 3.09mm high and weighs 4.24g.

Treasure case 2013 T77: Disclaimed and returned to finder.
Date: AD 1074-c.1077
Description: Two silver pennies of William I Two Stars type, BMC class V, North 845 dating to AD 1074-c. 1077 found around 100 metres apart in the same field. The field is now pasture and as far as it is known has not been disturbed since the Second World War when a small area was cultivated but it may have been ploughed in the past. No other material of 11th century date was recovered from the field. These coins are relatively rare as chance finds with only twelve two star type coins of William I re…

Description: Four silver pennies found squashed and possibly partially melted together. About a third of each penny is missing from an irregular break down one side of the group. One, the top penny, is more broken with c.50% missing from breaks. The coins are firmly attached together and no attempt was made to separate them for identification. The pennies are arranged with the obverse inwards so the reverse of the top and bottom can be seen. They both appear to be of William I, Two Sceptres type, BMC class IV, North 844 da…

Treasure report:
I have examined a group of objects found at Carhampton, Somerset. Five are coins, all official English silver issues of the later medieval period, which will therefore be of the sterling standard, i.e. 92.5% fine metal. Four of these were found in close proximity and their details are as follows:
1. Edward III, Fourth Coinage (1351-77) Half-groat Series C (1351-2) London 1.22g

Ston Easton, Somerset (2010 T217)
I have examined a group of seven coins reported found at Ston Easton, Somerset. Six are official silver coins of the kings of England, which will therefore have a fineness of over 90% silver. All of these are groats, the coin of fourpence. The remaining coin is a double patard of Charles the Bold, legally current in England as equivalent to the groat, by a convention of 1469 and frequently occurring as an English find. It has a fineness of about 80% silver. The English coins are of tw…

A group of ten coins found at West Crewkerne, Somerset. The coins are all official English silver coins and range in date from the early Tudor period to the reign of Charles I. They all come from times when the standard of the coinage was the traditional sterling standard, i.e. c. 92.5% fine metal. The coins were accompanied by a silver ornament. Most of the coins originate in the reign of Elizabeth I, with one earlier coin and two Stuart coins, although the latter are the highest value denominations present. A detailed list of the coins can be found below. It seems reasonable to rega…

A group of sixteen coins. Fifteen of the coins belong to the English Short Cross coinage, the coinage in production in the period 1180-1247. The remaining coin is from the contemporary Scottish coinage, which mixed freely with the English coinage at this time and was produced to the same standards. Their details are listed below. At this point the silver penny was the only coin made in England and Scotland: lesser denominations - halfpennies and farthings - were produced by cutting the penny physically into halves and quarters. This find consists of 11 full pennies and 5 cut halfpenni…
