A small concreated stack of medieval coins.
Dimensions and weight:
18.6mm diameter, 5.4mm high, weight 8.98 grams
Discussion and Dating:
It is thought that the group consists of 12 coins - 11 within the concreated stack and a single loose coin which has come adrift at one end. This is based on the size and weight of the group, along with an X-ray of the stack. From what can be seen of the inscription …

Oswestry, Shropshire (2010 T321)
I have examines 21 coins reported found at Oswestry, Shropshire. All are official silver coins of the later medieval kings of England and will therefore be of the traditional sterling standard, over 90% fine metal.
Three denominations are present: 17 examples of the groat of fourpence, one half-groat and three pennies, with a collective face value of 6 shillings and one penny. Most of the coins are from the reign of Edward III, with the three pennies earlier in date, from the coinage of Edward I and II, from after the recoinage of 1279. There is …

Myddle, Shropshire, coin find
2005 T419
I have examined 5 coins reported found at Myddle on 4 September 2005, during a metal detecting rally. These coins are all gold doblas of Peter or Pedro I, King of Castile ('Pedro the Cruel'), who reigned 1350-69. All the coins were struck at the Seville mint, the main mint of Castile. They are of good weight and are in generally good condition, with slight indication of wear and a frayed edge on one which was probably there from its manufacture, rather than being the result of damage, since its weight is consistent with the others. Gold coin…

A further batch of coins has been recovered from the site of the 2007 Baschurch hoard (2007 T545), to join the four additional batches reported on in 2010. The new material is listed below. All the identifiable items are silver pennies of the Long Coinage of King Henry III, of fragments thereof. Overall, they match perfectly with the range of material in the original find, with its unusual composition of Shrewsbury mint issues. One coin (no. 9) looks a little different to the others and may have undergone cleaning.
If it is accepted that the new finds form part of an original single…

General features of the find
190 complete or nearly complete coins (plus three larger and several small fragments). These were received in two batches, an original one of 167 coins (plus fragments); and a subsequent group of 25 coins (one of these in two fragments but forming a whole coin).
All but one of the coins are official English silver pennies of King Henry III, from the Long Cross coinage (issued 1247-1279). The remaining coin is a contemporary Scottish penny of King Alexander III, which would have been struck to the same standards and would also have circulated in England…
