A Post Medieval cast silver button. The button is circular in plan with a turned down edge which create a concave cross section. The face is decorated with a punched ground and stamped with two hearts beneath a crown. The silver attachment lug on the reverse appears to have been soldered on. A very similar example can be seen in the treasure annual report 2005/6, fig 614, p.139. It is noted in the discussion of this example that this type of button is commonly associated with the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1662. A silver-plated livery button, probably belonging to the Kynaston (and Kynaston-Edwards) family of Shropshire. The design shows 'the sun in splendour surmounted of a dexter arm, in armour, embowed, in hand a sword, all proper'. On the back is the maker's name: REYNOLDS & CO. 50 ST MARTINS LANE LONDON (this mark in use 1871-3).

A cast copper alloy probable button. The head is circular in plan with a concave outer surface which has two concentric rings as decoration. On profile the head is a conical shape terminating with an integral perforation lug. The surface of the button has an incomplete dark green patina with a patch of red copper corrosion. The button measures 16.73mm diameter and is 14.16mm long. It weighs 6g. The button probably dates to the Post Medieval period, probably 17th to 18th centuries.

A circular tombac button of the 18th century. It carries a shallowly inscribed design of a rose of five petals. The suspension loop is missing. A very close parallel may be found in Bailey, Buttons and Fasteners 500BC-AD1840, p. 49, Fig. 9.60. The button is 18.4mm in diameter and 2.4mm thick. It weighs 2.58gm.

A copper-alloy livery button of 19th century date. The head of the button is circular in plan and has a relief-moulded design on its domed upper surface. This design depicts a griffin stanging left on a three-pointed crown and holding a rod-like object in its right hand. The wing and tail are visible on the right-hand side of the beast. An angled rim marks the edge of the head. No details of the reverse or loop were recorded.

A circular, cast lead alloy button or stud probably dating from the early Post Medieval period. The upper surface is slightly domed and is decorated with four raised lines in the form of a cross radiating from a central, raised pellet. In each of the angles of the cross is a further raised pellet and the whole design is contained within a narrow, raised line running around the button just inside the outer circumference. A complete Post-Medieval copper alloy button. It is discoidal and flat with a slightly stepped rim on the upper surface. It is decorated with engraved six-petalled flowers with pointed stamens. The shank is missing is integral and pierced with a small circular hole. The button is very similar to no's.120-122 in Read (2005, pp.34-5), which are dated c.17th-18th century. Post Medieval copepr alloy button, 14mm in diameter and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 2.79grams. The object is circular with a slightly domed surface and has a sub-rectangular shaft which includes a circular fixing hole, protruding from its underside. The button is decorated with a series of domed circles arranged in rows, covering its whole surface. This type of button dates to the Tudor period and has many variants. This example matches fig 715, Page 25 in Bailey, G Buttons and fasteners.

Surface is smooth and in good condition with no visible corrosion, although the back is very rough (as was cast) and shows only the remains of the loop in the form of a small sub-circular post. The edges of the button are also very rough and missing parts of the edge.

The button has a diameter of 11.58mm and is 5.37mm thick. The loop is oval in shape, 6.92mm long and 5.18mm wide. The wire of the loop has a diameter of 1.26mm. The button weighs 2.96g. Three copper-alloy tombac buttons of 18th century date. All three buttons are made of an alloy containing high enough levels of zinc to create a silvery appearance. The buttons have flat upper surfaces and are completely undecorated. All of the buttons have a small central convex mount on the reverse where the loop was soldered into place.
