The sherd is a base fragment, possibly from a bowl jar. The base has an integral foot ring. The ware is oxidised ware, with orange coloured surfaces with a mid grey coloured core. The fabric is quite soft, but gritty in texture. There are frequent white, rounded quartz-like inclusions. The ware may be Severn Valley Ware, therefore dating to the Roman period. The breaks are quite fresh. It weighs 31.29g.

The sherd is a wall portion of a decorative vessel dating tot the roman period. The decoration comes in the form of rouletting which is often found on bowls or beakers. The rouletting does not help narrow the date (Cracknell and Mahany ed. 1994 Roman Alcester: Southern Extramural Area Part 2: Finds and Discussion CBA Research Report). The fabric is quite hard and has a mid grey core with oxidised orange surfaces. The interior surface is lighter in colour than the exterior. The fabric is quite fine with no obvious inclusions The sherd weighs 17.38g.

The sherd is a rim portion of a vessel, possibly a bowl. The rim and the wall of the vessel form a ‘q’ shape in profile, was the wall is straight. The fabric is a n orange colour throughout. There are occasional red coloured inclusions which maybe grog temper. It weighs 26g. Dating is possibly Roman.

A rim fragment from a bowl. Although it is a bowl type (B334) it is more likely to be a drinking vessel. These examples are higly burnished, and similar forms are found at York (Ref. No. 3919) and are shown as beakers. The York example is in North Gaulish grey wares and the vessels from Saltfleetby may be examples of this earlier type. However, the North Gaulish form generally has a less sharp carination and the York example is an unusual variant. The Lincoln form B334 is derived from Iron Age or Belgic traditions and dates to the 2nd century (125-200 AD).

Rims, some abraded, of wide mouthed bowls. Most have short necks of later 2nd to early 3rd century date (179-225 AD). Vessels with taller necks are later in date. Late Roman types have necks up to 4cms and are of later 3rd to 4th century date (270-400 AD). Nearly all of the rims are burnished or polished on the exterior and over to the interior and are of various diameters. They are made in various locations in Lincolnshire, including the Lincoln kilns, and are used as large casserole/stew pots.

Sherd from a locally produced hemispherical bowl. There is a line of judder rouletting at the girth. This type of rouletting is indicative of late Roman pottery and cruder than the early to mid Roman rouletting. This sherd dates from the later 3rd to the 4th century, and was probably used as oven to table ware.
