A very worn copper-alloy harness pendant, medieval circa 14th century in date, complete apart from the upper fragment of the suspension loop which is missing due to an old break. The suspension loop is set at righ angles to the plane of the pendant. The pendant is shield shaped and measures 30.03mm in length and 18.87mm in width. The front face has a Lion rampant right, with a recessed field behind it. No traces of enamel or gilding survvie, so although this pendant may have originally been heraldic its heraldry can no longer be traced.

Incomplete cast enamelled heraldic shield-shaped harness pendant with some of the blue enamel surviving so that the image of a lion rampant facing left is just visible. Both faces of the pendant are corroded so that much of the surfaces are missing, and part of the suspension loop is also missing. Read (2001) illustrates a similar example on page 53, Fig.32, No.411, which is dated to the 14th century.

Late medieval, lozenge-shaped horse pendant of cast copper alloy, and is gilded on both obverse and reverse. The design consists of a plain field within a beaded marginal line, and charged with the 'lion rampant' motif. There is no design on the reverse, and much of the gilding jas been lost, revealing copper alloy with a patchy, grey-green patina. The pendant measures 25.4mm x 22.4mm x 2.5mm and weighs 4.0g. It dates to the later medieval period.

Description and discussion supplied by Irene Szymanski. Description: Quatrefoil-shaped copper alloy pendant with bent suspension loop. The pendant has a raised border and frame for a lozenge-shaped central cell; within the cell a lion rampant, and within each of the lobes of the quatrefoil a fleur-de-lys. A small amount of red enamel remains within the central cell, and areas of blue enamel beyond it. The lion and fleurs appear to have been originally silvered, along with the frame of the central lozenge and the outer edge of the pendant itself; it is likely that the back was also sil…

A very worn copper alloy harness pendant of Medieval date. The pendant is flat and quatrefoil in plan. At the top of the quatrefoil is an integral circular suspension loop set at right angles to the front face and with a circular perforation. The suspension loop has worn away at the very top end and has a slight break. The front face of the pendant is decorated with a central, triangular shaped shield containing a lion rampant. Above, to the left and right are the remains of additional heraldic elements that are too poorly preserved to allow for close identification. There are perhaps …

Medieval horse harness pendant and stud for suspension. Both very corroded. Gilt circular stud with a shank on the reverse and twin loops at the base containing an iron pin and a pendant. The quatrefoil pendant retains traces of gilding and red and blue enamel. Blazon: Gules a lion rampant Or (on a lozengiform field from each side of which springs a fleur-de-lis Or into each foil Azure). Probably allusive for ENGLAND and FRANCE. Cf. similar examples in Ashley (2002) 23 and fig.21, 203-5. 14th century.
